Counseling

While serious illness isn’t happening in the body of caregivers, caregivers are impacted too.

The caregiving role can enhance or detract from the experience of well-being. Sometimes we need a space to consider these impacts.

Serious illness can impact the way we see ourselves, how we relate to others, and our quality of life.

When questions of death arise, our attention to what it means to live and how we experience loss can be profound.

I can help with

Counseling to help you (re)discover your core values and life priorities. Together we can explore how you live authentically in alignment with your values.

Counseling for experiences of:

  • Anticipatory loss, grief and bereavement

  • Coping with serious illness

  • Caregiver strain and well being

  • Death anxiety

  • Compassion fatigue, moral distress or demoralization

Consultation

I offer consultation for individuals living with serious illness and/or their important others. Consultation is also available for health professionals navigating professional or ethical uncertainty.

I support those who are….

  • Individuals Living with Illness and/or their Important Others

    Advance Care Planning:

We can create an Advance Directive where you can document who you trust to represent your wishes if you can’t speak for yourself, and what is most important to you in your medical treatment.

    Legacy Building Activities:

We can look beyond your valuables and consider what values you wish to leave for those you care about.

    Healthcare Navigation:

I will help you understand the continuum of care and how to be the best advocate for yourself or someone you care for.

  • Health Professionals

    Compassion Fatigue, Burnout:

Together we will work to identify and understand the lived experience of caregiving as it relates to your professional orientation, engagement, or meaning.

Ethical Dilemmas, Uncertainty, or Moral Distress:

We can examine any challenges you may face aligning to your moral compass - or how you consider matters of “right” and “wrong” in your professional life and practice.

“The expectation that we can be immersed in suffering and loss daily and not be touched by it is as unrealistic as expecting to be able to walk through water and not get wet.”

—Rachel Naomi Remen
